{"id":521,"date":"2019-01-30T11:39:41","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T16:39:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ptsied.com\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=521"},"modified":"2019-10-02T15:59:52","modified_gmt":"2019-10-02T19:59:52","slug":"microbiologist","status":"expired","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/www.ptsied.com\/?post_type=job_listing&p=521","title":{"rendered":"Microbiologist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ptsied.com\/\"><strong>Pegasus Technical Services, Inc.<\/strong><\/a>, an&nbsp;environmental firm in Cincinnati, Ohio,&nbsp;has an immediate opening for a Microbiologist at U.S. EPA\u2019s Gulf Ecology Division (GED) in Gulf Breeze, FL.&nbsp;This full-time position is funded through a U.S. EPA contract, and involves sample processing and performing subsequent chemical and molecular assays .<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will be a key member of a team that will provide technical support in the sampling and analysis of samples, including&nbsp;(1) processing of environmental samples including water, soil\/sediments, and biological materials in preparation for analysis; (2) analysis of aforementioned environmental samples for quantitative and qualitative assays, including nutrient content, TSS, chlorophyll content, and soil or sediment characterizations; (3) extraction of nucleic acids (i.e., DNA and RNA) analyses using commercially available kits; (4) quantification of nucleic acids; (5) application of PCR, qPCR, or other molecular assays to quantify microbial targets of interest; (6) application of assays to determine MPN of bacteria and PFU of viruses; and (7) analysis of data using Bioinformatics software packages among others. Existing SOPs will be used for the analysis of the samples.
