Pegasus Technical Services, Inc. (Pegasus), an environmental consulting firm in Cincinnati, Ohio, has a position available for a mid-level engineer to work full-time on a U.S. EPA-funded contract. The person in this position will provide support for microbial monitoring of a home plumbing system at an EPA Facility and evaluating the treatment efficacy of a point-of-use device with UV-LEDs that will be installed in the plumbing system. As part of this work, the successful candidate is expected to develop an assay for determining the viability of opportunistic pathogens after UV disinfection using UV LED technology and a collimated beam apparatus with a low-pressure mercury lamp at 254 nm that produces light energy at specific wavelengths (UVC: 255 nm, 265 nm, and 285 nm). Dose-response curves will be generated for the inactivation of a range of microorganisms, including Legionella, non-tuberculous mycobacteria, E. coli, bacteriophages Q\u03b2 and MS2, Cryptosporidium oocysts, and human enteric viruses, including COVID-19.<\/p>\n
The person is also expected to provide support for other on-going laboratory research activities, perform data management and record keeping, maintain equipment, track inventory supplies, and ensure proper QA\/QC guidelines are followed. Candidate must have strong work ethic, strong written and verbal communication skills, must be willing to learn new techniques and instrumentation, and must be good at team collaboration. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated experience in the use of collimated beam apparatus, calibration, UV inactivation of microorganisms and microbiological techniques for determining the viability and infectivity of bacterial and viral pathogens.<\/p>\n
